We love food, that must be why we run a fine food shop! We don’t always feel like cooking, and so we have tips to make meals as simple as possible while still delicious.
Streamlining meal prep
A meal is all about basic staples to have on hand:
- Proteins: Ground beef, chicken, eggs, nuts, tofu, etc.
- Carbohydrates: Pasta, rice, or potatoes
- Vegetables: Fresh (at this of year we have marvelous choices at our farmers market) canned or frozen, onions, and garlic
- Pantry Staples: Olive oil, soy sauce, vinegar, BBQ sauces, seasoning, and spices
If you have these, you can always whip up a meal in a pinch. To transform a mundane meal into something special, using quality ingredients is the key.
A grilled cheese becomes a decadent comfort food when you use great Canadian artisanal cheese. It could be a cheddar like Cows 3-year-old, a Swiss type like 5 Brothers, or a mixed of cow’s and goat’s milk cheeses. There are so many options! Our grandson likes it when we make that special grilled cheese he loves so much and serve it with a selection of chutneys.
One of my favorite easy meals relies on what I call my “dump sauce”! We have in store a variety of them.
Feel like having an Indian meal? How about butter chicken? Asian, no problem, a Yakisoba noodles kit or a Pad Thai stir-fry sauce! What I like with these ready made sauces is the simplicity. You fry your protein, add your vegetable(s), dump the sauce on it and serve on rice or noodle. All in under 30 minutes!
If you have a craving for an Italian dish, we also carry a selection of artisanal pastas. Favuzzi pasta is widely praised by consumers for its authentic Italian taste, and perfect al dente bite. Made in the mountains of Italy’s Antola Regional Nature Park, the long varieties are famously hung and packaged by hand to maintain their signature “U” shape and prevent breakage. Their tomato sauces are fantastique! We often use the Vodka tomato sauce and sprinkle our plate with some delicious mozzarella! Yum!
