Shopping in Almonte
The charming town of Almonte, just west of Ottawa, is a popular destination for many looking to enjoy a day out. The eclectic variety of businesses in downtown Almonte makes it easy to spend the day, with lots of shopping options and great choices for enjoying a bite to eat.
The riverwalk and falls form the backdrop to Mill Street, the core of Almonte’s downtown shopping area, and provide outdoor spaces that make a day in Almonte truly special.
Almonte’s shopping scene also boasts four seasonal Street Markets. The Street Markets are organized by Destination Almonte, a group of local business owners, including Peches & Poivre. During the Street Markets, Mill Street is closed to all but foot traffic, and the street is enlivened with a mix of live entertainment, food tastings and options, sales and contests.

Quote from Expedia’s article on Small Towns: “Shoppers! Not that we need to convince you to buy more clothes, but perhaps we can direct you to a shopping district you may not have splurged through yet: downtown Almonte, Ontario. Voted as one of the best small towns in Ontario (and Canada at large), this former mill town is now known for their boutiques and art galleries dotting the 19th century-style downtown.”
Quote from Cottage Life article: “People flock to Almonte for the unique shopping on Mill Street where they can browse boutiques, search for antiques, and dine at some really interesting local restaurants. “
Quote from Travel Mammal: “Be forewarned – Almonte is one of the only places that may willingly force you to enter every store. I love towns like this – you can actually see the collective effort from everyone in the community, to beautify the community. Local pride is tangible, everywhere and it shows.”
