At this time of year, we get oodles of new and tasty products for the upcoming festive season. One of our favorites is Lakrids by Bülow from Denmark, which specializes in luxury licorice wrapped in chocolate and various flavored shells.

Lakrids by Bülow began in 2007 with one bold goal: to create a completely new category of “gourmet licorice”. Founder Johan Bülow set up shop on the Danish island of Bornholm and started creating small batches of this delicacy. Today, the Copenhagen-based brand is still raising the bar, using natural ingredients like licorice root, organic chilis, wild berries, and cocoa beans, crafting each chewy bite by hand.
We have to admit, we love dark licorice! This one is especially amazing. It is made by boiling licorice root extract with natural ingredients like rice flour and molasses and pressure cooking the mixture. The end result is often but not always coated in up to 30 thin layers of chocolate.
Many more combinations have followed! Licorice with passionfruit chocolate, dark coffee and sea buckthorn, to name a few. Many skeptics and people who dislike standard black licorice will be pleasantly surprised by the brand’s chocolate-coated and flavored gourmet lines.
