Sea Buckthorn – The Producers

Nathalie and Dominic met back in 1992. In 2000, appreciating a simple life and open space, they settled with their two children on a bucolic piece of land in the Québec Eastern Townships. They are now dedicated to making people discover this “super fruit” that is sea buckthorn.

What is Sea Buckthorn?Seabuckthorn

Common sea buckthorn has branches that are dense, stiff and very thorny, making fruit picking difficult. The sea buckthorn tree gives a multitude of bright orange berries bursting with high amounts of vitamins, protein, fibre, antioxidants vitamins and minerals (at least 190 bioactive compounds have been found), making the sea buckthorn berry a powerful food. It is touted as one of the most nutritious and vitamin-rich foods in the world!

Sea buckthorn berries can be eaten in many ways. They can be juiced, or blended in a smoothie. They can also be cooked into desserts, jams or jelly.

On our trip to the Eastern Townships last weekend, we visited Les Jardins Zone Orange owner,Jelly Zone OrangeNathalie, and were able to bring back a limited quantity of her Sea Buckthorn and Pear Jelly.

This gourmet jelly has a lovely soft flavour; our first thought being that it would pair wonderfully with cheese. Or try it on your toast at breakfast. It would also make an excellent gift, or, combined with a piece of regional cheese, a lovely presentation as a hostess gift.

This gourmet jelly is a pure pleasure to share!
